The Key to Presenting Great Work is Preparation
The Agent Showcase at the Jamison Jones Acting Studio is a hybrid of the traditional agent showcase; combining 3 weeks of instruction and direction with the final presentation to a select group of agents and managers.
Our goal is to allow the participating actors the opportunity to be coached into a solid performance by an industry professional who can help guide them to their best work, avoiding the pitfalls of presenting unprepared or ill prepared material to agents and managers who need to see the quality of the actor’s best work in order to properly represent them to the industry.
Actors are encouraged to sign up with a partner and choose material and present it for approval prior to the first day of instruction. Once the material is approved, the actors will be instructed to prepare said material together and come to the first night of instruction off book with proposed blocking. Over the next 3 weeks we will dissect, explore and redirect the material during 3 in-class work sessions.
The fourth and final class will be a 1 hour presentation to the selected agents, no additional instruction will take place during that session.
Week-by-week
Preparation – Prior to week one actors must be paid in full and present their material for approval by the instructor. Download the Michael Shurtleff Audition cheatsheet, 12 Guideposts (PDF) to begin your preparation:
Week 1 – Actors should attend off-book and blocked with an approved scene under 5 minutes in length. Scenes will be reviewed and specific notes will be given in regards to performance and staging.
Week 2 – A more detailed dissecting of the scene work will take place with an emphasis on relationship and organic truthful choices.
Week 3 – Review for final presentation. Actors will be expected to attend this final work session with all necessary props and wardrobe, having fully integrated the notes from previous work session.
Week 4 – Presentation to Industry
